Summer School: Archaeology in the western Balkan: current methods in a holistic archaeological process
organised by the University of Cologne, Germany | University of Tirana, Albania | Institute of Archaeology at the Academy of Sciences of Albania | Goce Delčev University of Štip, North Macedonia | University of Novi Sad, Serbia
We a delighted to announce an archaeological summer school in Pogradec, Albania, in the summer of 2026. This is the second time this summer school takes place, after a successful first round in 2025. Over two weeks, this summer school teaches an overview of modern archaeological methods from fieldwork through material study to publication and communication to the public. The summer school combines lectures, workshops and excursions to archaeological sites in Albania, North Macedonia and Greece. With student participants from four countries and teachers from six countries, the summer school will foster international networks in Archaeology.
This summer school is generously funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) which covers travel, accommodation and food for participants. With funded places for 16 participants from Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia and Germany, this summer school is open to Archaeology students from beginners (first year BA) to more advanced students (MA).
